Ryan Reynolds’s Mint Mobile And AriZona Iced Tea Team Up Against Inflation

While the price of most commodities continues to climb, the price for a can of AriZona Iced Tea has remained the same since the 90s. So, too, will the monthly plan for Mint Mobile.

Ryan Reynolds would rather douse a cell phone with AriZona Iced Tea than allow inflation to affect the price of a Mint Mobile plan, according to the telecom brand’s latest stunt.

Like other Mint Mobile spots before it, ‘A League of Non-Inflationary Gentlemen’ mocks competitors’ inflation fees while underscoring his brand’s ethos of providing consistently affordable monthly plans. To spread the word, Reynolds, the face of Mint Mobile, brings on Don Vultaggio, founder and chairman of AriZona Iced Tea, to discuss how the price of a can – 99 cents – has remained the same since the brand’s inception despite economic fluctuations.

“Now, we’re taking that same non-inflationary tea technology and putting it into Mint Mobile,” Reynolds says in the ad, while he dumps a can of AriZona Iced Tea out onto a smartphone. “While Big Wireless increases their prices, Mint Mobile will continue offering premium wireless for just $15 a month.”

“Mint’s core focus is saving people money on their wireless bills,” says Mint Mobile’s chief marketing officer Aron North. “At a time when a lot of Americans are struggling to make ends meet, many of our competitors are raising their prices. We wanted to make it very clear that we have not, and will not, do that. AriZona Iced Tea was a great brand to partner with to bring that idea to life, given that in its 30 year history, it has never raised prices on its core product.”

The new campaign includes several digital and social activations, including Reynolds’s and Mint’s YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook pages. The creative was handled by Reynolds’ own agency, Maximum Effort, which was acquired by CTV player MNTN last summer.
