Zacha among 24 players to file for NHL salary arbitration

Pavel Zacha of the Boston Bruins was one of 24 restricted free agents who filed for salary arbitration by the July 17 deadline, according to the NHL Players’ Association.

Zacha, a forward who was traded to the Bruins by the New Jersey Devils on July 13 for a forward Erik Haulahad an NHL career-high 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists) in 70 games for the Devils last season.

In addition to Zacha, two other players — forward Lawson Crouse of the Arizona Coyotes and defenseman Jake Wallman of the Detroit Red Wings — have an arbitration hearing scheduled. All other players who filed have signed or agreed to a new contract.

The deadline for club-elected salary arbitration notification was July 18. The Calgary Flames filed for forward Matthew Tkachuk before trading him to the Florida Panthers on July 22, after which he agreed to an eight-year contract. The Devils filed for arbitration with forward Miles Wood; he agreed to a one-year, $3.2 million contract Thursday, two days before his scheduled hearing.

Salary arbitration hearings began Tuesday and will run through Aug. 11. A player can sign a contract with his current team any time before his hearing.

Defenseman Niko Mikkola filed for arbitration but signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on July 17 to avoid a hearing.

Goalie Kaapo Kahkonen signed a two-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on July 18 to avoid a hearing, and goalie Vitek Vanecek signed a three-year contract with New Jersey on July 19.

Forward Kasperi Kapanen signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 21 to avoid a hearing scheduled for July 30.

Forward Morgan Geekie agreed to a one-year contract with the Seattle Kraken on July 24 to avoid a hearing scheduled for Aug. 11; forward Isaac Lundestrom signed a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks on July 25; and forward Jesse Puljujarvi signed a one-year contract with the Oilers on July 26.

Forward Mathieu Joseph agreed to a four-year contract with the Ottawa Senators on July 28.

Forward Andrew Mangiapane signed a Three-year, $17.4 million contract to stay with the Flames on Tuesday to avoid a hearing scheduled for Friday.

Forward Jesper Bratt agreed to a One-year, $5.45 million contract with the Devils on Wednesday to avoid a hearing scheduled the same day.

Forward Kailer Yamamoto Signed a two-year, $6.2 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday to avoid a hearing scheduled for Sunday.

Forward Yakov Trenin was awarded a two-year, $3.4 million contract by an arbitrator on Friday, the same day forward Keegan Kolesar agreed to a three-year, $4.2 million contract with the Vegas Golden Knights to avoid a hearing scheduled for Aug. 10.

Forward Mason Appleton signed a Three-year, $6.5 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday to avoid a hearing scheduled for Aug. 11.

Last offseason, 17 restricted free agents filed for arbitration and two had a team-elected hearing scheduled; each agreed to a contract before his hearing date.
