Zach Wilson, Ryan Fitzpatrick, New York Jets, stats, Jacksonville Jaguars, reaction, will he leave, latest, updates

Zach Wilson is finished as quarterback of the Jets.

That’s according to former Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who skewered Wilson as uninspiring after a performance against the Jaguars Thursday night in which Wilson was 9-18 for 92 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

“He’s giving them nothing to be inspired about,” Fitzpatrick said on Amazon’s postgame show.

“That was my biggest issue watching the game today. We’ve seen the splash plays. We’ve seen a little bit of growth. He’s starting to say the right things even though he might not believe them.

“But guys in the middle can see authenticity. Guys in the huddle can see if you give a damn about playing football and if it’s the most important thing in your life at that moment. He doesn’t. You can see it in his play.”

Wilson was benched for mobile quarterback Chris Streveler in the third quarter.

“I just think, unfortunately, his career here is done because he has lost the locker room,” Fitzpatrick continued.

“He lost the guys. They have no confidence in him. He doesn’t inspire confidence in them. They don’t believe in the kid. And he really hasn’t done anything for them to believe in him just by the way he plays, his passion for the game. That’s what really bugs me and what bugged me today. I’m not saying he’s not going to have a career, it will just have to be somewhere else.”

Last month, Fitzpatrick told The Post on an Amazon conference call that he thought it was a “red flag” that the Jets needed to bring in Wilson’s personal quarterback coach, John Beck.

“That being said, one of the biggest question marks I’ve had about him, and the thing that scared me last year, is when they called John Beck, his personal quarterback coach, to come out and help get his mind right during the season, and put him on staff,” Fitzpatrick said at the time.

“To me, that was a giant red flag. I don’t know Zach Wilson, but that scares me a little bit.

“I know they were doing whatever they could to get his mentals right, and to match everything with his physicals, but that one scared me a little bit — having to fly someone in to make sure he was OK, and coddle him a little bit .

“He has to play better and this is a nice wake-up call for him to know that they have a good football team, and they don’t need him to do those things he was doing on Sunday, making those mistakes.”
