Yankees Schedule MLB Rehab Assignment for RHP Stephen Ridings in Somerset

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The New York Yankees have scheduled an MLB rehab assignment for RHP Stephen Ridings with the Double-A Somerset Patriots on Saturday, September 17. The Patriots take on the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) at 6:35 pm at TD Bank Ballpark.


Ridings was placed on the 60-day injured list on April 5 with a right shoulder impingement. He made his MLB debut for the Yankees on August 3, 2021 and appeared in five games for New York last year. He posted a 1.80 ERA and struck out seven over five innings pitched.

The Huntington, New York native dominated in Somerset to start the 2021 season. As a Patriot, Ridings was a perfect 4-0 with a 0.47 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 19 innings pitched in 14 appearances.

The 6’8″ hurler was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 6, where he continued to excel before his MLB call up. For the RailRiders, Ridings was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched in eight games.

Ridings was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Haverford College in Pennsylvania. He was signed as a free agent by the Yankees on January 18, 2021.

Ridings is one of 16 Patriots to make their MLB debuts following time in Somerset since becoming the Yankees Double-A affiliate in 2021.

He becomes the ninth player and 10th MLB rehab assignment for Somerset this season, joining LHP Aroldis Chapman (two assignments), RHP Domingo German, RHP Ron Marinaccio, OF Giancarlo Stanton, RHP Luis Severino, LHP Zack Britton, OF Harrison Bader, and RHP Miguel Castro.
