Yankees reliever Jimmy Cordero has been suspended for the remainder of the 2023 season under the MLB-MLBPA joint domestic violence policy.
The league announced the suspension on Wednesday afternoon, making it official that Cordero will not be able to pitch for the remainder of the season or the postseason. Cordero will also participate in a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program, which will be supervised by the Joint Policy Board.
“The Yankees are fully supportive of Major League Baseball’s investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Jimmy Cordero,” a club statement read. “There is no justification for domestic violence, and we stand with the objectives, standards and enforcement of MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.”
Cordero, a 31-year-old right-handed pitcher, has appeared in 31 games this season, pitching to a 3.86 ERA and a 1.071 WHIP.
Cordero originally signed with the Yankees in December 2021 and then re-signed with the club this past March.
