NEW YORK – From the start, Domingo German didn’t have a put-away pitch against the Seattle Mariners.
By the third inning, the Yankees defense had abandoned him as much as his command, and German exited in the fourth inning with a 10-0 deficit, having surrendered four solo home runs.
German also contributed to that three-error third inning at Yankee Stadium, where the crowd made its displeasure known.
With the Yanks already trailing 6-0 on Thursday night, German and third baseman Josh Donaldson committed errors on the same continuous play, leading to two unearned runs – along with a lengthy replay review.
With Eugenio Suarez on first base and ex-Yankee Mike Ford batting, with one out, Ford’s slow roller was bobbled by Donaldson for an error.
Recovering the ball, Donaldson threw to German, racing to cover third base, as Suarez tried to advance.
Suarez would have been out by plenty, but German dropped Donaldson’s toss, allowing Suarez to score and advancing Ford to second base.

Next came the delay.
An umpire crew chief’s challenge was followed by a successful challenge by Seattle manager Scott Servais to advance Ford to third base on the double error.
Jose Caballero cashed in with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0, and the Yanks’ third error occurred two batters later.
That’s when surehanded first baseman Anthony Rizzo swiped at Jarred Kelenic’s slow roller near the line, only to watch the ball roll into shallow right field.
Rizzo then prevented the inning from being extended, and another run from scoring, when he saved Donaldson from a second error when he snared a bounced, wide throw to first.
German was gone after yielding fourth-inning, one-out homers to Teoscar Hernandez and Raleigh, back-to-back.
Kolten Wong and Ty France connected on solo homers in the second inning, after Seattle’s four-run first.
