Too good to be true.
That’s how you could characterize the rumors that the New York Yankees were preparing to make a run at free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports the Yankees’ main focus is trying to sign free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon.
The Yankees do like Correa as a player, but they are having a hard time seeing a fit, either financially or on the field, as they have three shortstop candidates (Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, Isiah Kiner-Falefa) plus veteran third basemen DJ LeMahieu and Josh Donaldsonwho’s thought to be untradeable following a rough offensive season.
Heyman reports the San Francisco Giants and Minnesota Twins are “locked in bidding for Correa.”

The Yankees-Correa buzz gained steam up on Friday. Per 95.7 The Game in the Bay Area:
“The team I’m watching at the moment — the Yankees. Because I’m definitely picking up a lot of vibes there that yeah they signed Aaron Judge to that $360 million deal, but they’re working on something big.” – @Buster_ESPN Mr Carlos Correa.
Heyman reported the “Giants, Twins, Cubs are among teams in on Carlos Correa, who has the advantages of being a little younger than (Xander) Bogaerts and (Trea) Turner and also having no qualifying offer.”
The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman reported the Twins “believe they’re firmly in the mix for Correa, and have offered him a massive contract far beyond anything in franchise history.”
Whoever signs Correa will have quite the bill to pay. The Philadelphia Phillies gave Trea Turner an 11-year, $300 million contract while the San Diego Padres signed Xander Bogaerts to an 11-year, $280 million contract.
Correa and Dansby Swanson remain the best shortstops on the open market following the MLB Winter Meetings in San Diego, Calif.
