Women’s Soccer Travels to College of Charleston

CONWAY, SC – The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team will hit the road for the first time in 2022 as the Chanticleers make the short trip south to Charleston to face in-state foe College of Charleston on Sunday, Aug. 21.

CCU enters the match 0-0-1 overall while CofC is 1-0-0 overall.

The Chanticleers opened the 2022 season with a 2-2 draw with Jacksonville on Thursday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

Senior Megan Brouse started the scoring efforts for both teams in the 13th minute as she connected on a pass from a teammate Tori Carnevale to put the hosts up 1-0. Just seven minutes later, Jacksonville’s Olivia Abdallah tied the contest at 1-1 in the 20th minute, followed by teammate Beyonce Robinson’s 26th-minute goal to put the Dolphins up 2-1.

Just 10 minutes after the halftime break, Coastal freshman Julia Ziegenfuss tallied her first career goal as she connected on a pass from teammates Taylor Tolson and Brouse to tie the contest at 2-2 in the 55th minute.

Graduate transfer Katelyn Kellogg got the start in goal for the Chants, playing all 90 minutes while picking up four saves, including a pivotal stop in the 79th minute on a shot from JU’s Robinson.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS

  • After finishing the 2021 season 3-12-3 overall and 2-6-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, the Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the 2022 CAA Preseason Poll earning 29 points.
  • The Cougars welcome back sophomore Delaney Dawes and senior Jenna Snead who were both named to the 2021 CAA Women’s soccer All-Rookie Team a year ago.
  • Coastal and the College of Charleston have three familiar foes on their schedule this season as both teams will face off against UNCW, Charleston Southern, and App State.
