Women’s Soccer to Celebrate Senior Day Against Binghamton

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s soccer celebrates its senior class on Sunday, Aug. 28, as the Spartans welcome Binghamton to DeMartin Stadium for a 1 pm contest on Old College Field. MSU will conduct its Senior Day ceremony beginning around 30 minutes before kickoff against the Bearcats.

HEAD COACH JEFF HOSLER SAID…

“We are playing a side that has had some mixed results,” Hosler said. “Binghamton didn’t have a good opening day, but they rebounded well with a win against Temple. They are a team that can get forward and score goals. We are going to have to be organized defensively and try to make them uncomfortable. We will have to be clinical in front of the goal and continue that efficiency, because I don’t see tomorrow’s game having as many goal-scoring opportunities as we did against Central Michigan. We need to take what we learned against the Chippewas and get off to a quick start, while keeping our foot on the gas. The goal is to make that quality a trademark of our program.”

KICKIN’ IT
The Green & White enter their fourth game of the 2022 season boasting a 2-0-1 overall record highlighted by the team’s impressive 7-0 demolition of the Central Michigan Chippewas on Thursday, Aug. 25. MSU saw six players notch goals in the winning effort, with freshman forward Courtney Koehler standing out as the team’s only multiple-goal scorer following successful attempts in the sixth and 66th minutes, respectively. Michigan State has yet to yield a goal this season and stands as one of only two Big Ten teams that boast a perfect goals-against-average of 0.00, joined by the cross-division rival Indiana Hoosiers.

SENIOR DAY AT DEMARTIN
Michigan State and the Spartan women’s soccer program will celebrate a group of nine graduating seniors in a ceremony before kickoff on Sunday. The Green & White will honor the goalkeeper Lauren Kozalforward Lauren DeBeaumidfielder Ally Childersdefender Raegan Coxforward Camryn Evansdefender Bria Schrotenboerdefender Ruby Diodatimidfielder Abby Gardiner and defender Samantha White. MSU’s graduating and transfer class has played a role in 26 overall victories in addition to the program’s first Big Ten Tournament appearance since 2009 last season.

“We are thrilled to be honoring this special group of seniors,” Hosler said. “I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with them and get to know them. They mean so much to our program, especially considering the values that they helped us build into our culture and the leadership that they demonstrate. There is no question that the reason our program had success right away was because of their input and their work.”

BATTLING THE BEARCATS

Binghamton head coach Neel Bhattacharjee guides the Bearcats into their fourth game of the season boasting a 1-1-1 overall record. They head to the banks of the Red Cedar coming off a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Marist. The team posted an 8-8-3 overall record last year coupled with a 4-3-2 finish in America East Conference contests. Binghamton returns both of its top-two scorers from the 2021 campaign in senior forward Maya Anand and senior midfielder Olivia McKnight. The duo combined to drop 25 points on the year and scored 10 goals while registering five assists.
