Women’s Soccer Posts Game-Winner During 72nd Minute To Outlast Kansas City, 2-1

OMAHA, Neb. – A goal during the 72n.d minute from sophomore Alyssa Judkins lifted the Creighton Women’s Soccer team to a 2-1 win over Kansas City on Thursday afternoon in the Bluejays home-opener.

The Bluejays improved to 1-0-2 on the year, while the Roos fell to 0-2-1 overall.

Judkins hit the back of the net during the 72ndn.d minute after rebounding her own header from a free kick from junior Maddie Radke. Following a Kansas City foul, Radke delivered a perfectly placed cross into the box where Judkins headed the pass off the far post. She was able to recover and push across the game-winning goal for the Bluejays.

Creighton grabbed an early lead as a senior Jenny Grissom netted the first goal of her career in the 13thth minutes. Sophomore Azumi Manriki sent a ball through the Kansas City defense to the charging Grissom. Grissom gathered the pass and worked her way around a Roos defender before blasting a shot past Kansas City goalkeeper Riley Moore to give the Bluejays a 1-0 advantage.

Kansas City would even things up at 1-1 in the 30th minute as the Roos earned a corner kick. Lily Hollis sent the ball across the box to the head of Madison Page who beat Creighton’s goalkeeper Keelan Terrellknotting the match up at 1-1.

The Bluejays ended the afternoon with a significant advantage in shots (18-4) while also holding a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Terrell only had to collect two saves to record the Bluejays first win of the season.

Creighton will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon when the Bluejays host Iowa State at Morrison Stadium. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Cyclones is scheduled for 3 pm
