Women’s soccer plays to stalemate with IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS — The Bellarmine University women’s soccer team played to a scoreless deadlock with IUPUI on Thursday night at Carroll Stadium.

The contest marked the first road game of the season for Bellarmine (0-1-1) and first away match in the tenure of first-year Head Coach Paul Babba. IUPUI (2-0-1) maintained its early unbeaten streak.

The shots were even at seven apiece. Bellarmine had a 5-2 advantage in the first half, but IUPUI flipped the count in the second stanza. The Knights held a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had one corner kick.

Bellarmine’s stout defensive effort led to the Knights’ first clean sheet of the season. Sophomore Cambria Kingman and senior Elyssa Francis — in her first action of the year coming off injury — combined for the shutout in goal. Kingman and Francis split halves.

Bellarmine will play at 3 pm (ET) Sunday at Purdue Fort Wayne.
