Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 on Sunday

ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Lindenwood women’s soccer team (1-2-1, 0-0-0 OVC) dropped its Sunday matchup by a score of to Milwaukee (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Horizon) from Milwaukee, Wis. Sam Blazek made a career-high 11 saves in the loss.

GAME OVERVIEW
Each team traded scoring chances in the early going as Lindenwood earned a corner kick in the seventh minute Paige Anderson eventually buried, as the Lions thought they had taken a 1-0 lead, but the goal was called back for offside. On the ensuing rush, the Panthers hit the crossbar from a distance, but the game remained scoreless. Milwaukee eventually broke through in the 20th minute, converting from the spot to take a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after, Lindenwood earned a free kick just outside the box, but the attempt was missed Rachel Jackson was stopped by the Panthers keeper. Despite the early goal, Blazek put together a strong first half, making eight saves, including a big one in the 44th minute to keep the deficit at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Milwaukee added to its lead in the 62nd minute, taking a 2-0 advantage early in the second half. The Lions were unable to cut into the deficit and fell by a score of 2-0.

“This is a good measuring stick.” said head coach Dave Musso. “Milwaukee is one of the best Division I teams out there and we’re going to see a lot of good teams, so we have to keep growing as a unit, sticking together, believing, recovering and them it’s all about the next game. ”
