“It appears at this early stage the woman … may have walked on and entered the track to try and retrieve a dropped phone before she was hit by a roller-coaster carriage, about 5.45pm.”
The woman was then found injured on the ground.
The Rebel Coaster ride has been shut down as the incident is investigated.
In a statement to 7NEWS.com.au, Melbourne Royal confirmed a “reported injury on the Rebel Coaster ride”.
“The visitor has been taken to the hospital for further assessment,” it said.
“The safety and well-being of our visitors to the Show is our number one priority.
“We are working closely with the ride operator, WorkSafe Victoria and Victoria Police to investigate the issue further, however, we can confirm that no one has fallen from the ride.
“The ride in question will be closed for the foreseeable future and updates will be made as information comes to hand.”
