Wolves are poised to make a third bid for Bristol City star Alex Scott after an offer worth over £20 million was rejected by the Championship club.
Julen Lopetegui is determined to land one of his major summer targets and Wolves are ready to submit another proposal for the England Under-20 international.
As revealed by Telegraph Sports on Saturday, Wolves returned with an improved bid for Scott but it has been turned down by City, who are seeking a fee of around £25 million.
Wolves’ offer was worth £20 million with the promise of further installments on achievements and incentives, but City are standing firm on their valuation.
That stance will not deter Wolves from making another attempt to land the highly-rated attacking midfielder, who will turn 20 next month.
Wolves remain hopeful that a deal can be agreed this month, despite competition from a number of rival Premier League clubs including Bournemouth and West Ham.
Bournemouth’s bid of £15m was turned down last week and there is a sense that they feel the asking price is too steep for a player who has never appeared in the top division.
Other clubs such as Tottenham have also considered Scott in recent months, but Wolves are ready to press ahead and try to conclude the transfer.
Wolves are yet to make any major signings this summer and Lopetegui’s budget is restricted as the club bids to avoid future breaches of Financial Fair Play rules.
Lopetegui is pushing Wolves’ pursuit of Scott and regards the teenager as one of the most gifted young players outside the Premier League.
Scott is known as the “Guernsey Grealish” and has two years left on his contract at his current club, who are managed by Nigel Pearson.
The 19-year-old played the second half of City’s pre-season friendly against Torquay on Saturday afternoon.
