Wendy’s will debut a new restaurant design in the spring designed to enhance customer, crew and delivery driver experience.
Dubbed the “Global Next Gen,” the “sleek and modern” design will include technology features for optimizing Wendy’s restaurants with the growth of mobile and delivery orders. The first restaurant to feature the new design will open in New Albany in the spring. Wendy’s did not identify the specific location.
“To accelerate our business and expand our footprint across the globe, we must consistently meet the needs of our customers however they chose to engage with Wendy’s, whether that’s through a digital platform or in the drive-thru,” said Wendy’s president and CEO Todd Penegor in a news release. “‘Global Next Gen’ enhances the customer experience across ordering channels and streamlines operations for our crew, all while creating better returns for franchisees.”
The first restaurant to have a modern pick-up window, Wendy’s will use the redesign as an opportunity to improve the growing digital side of the business.

The new design includes dedicated delivery parking and a delivery pick-up window on the restaurant’s exterior. Third-party delivery drivers previously needed to enter the dining room to get orders.
Mobile order parking, pick-up shelving in-restaurant, a galley-style kitchen to improve efficiency, energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems, and technological innovations to assist employees in handling more digital orders are also among the new features.
