The Seattle Kraken have been the surprise team of the 2022-23 NHL season, starting 15-7-3, and come into tonight’s matchup against the Washington Capitals aiming for their eighth win in their last ten games and go for their 16th win of the season, a mark they did not hit until Feb. 11 in their inaugural season last year. Awaiting the Kraken is forward Alexander Ovechkin and his assault on the NHL record books, sitting just five goals shy of becoming only the third man to score 800 career goals and seven to surpass Gordie Howe for second all-time.

The Capitals have been a streaky team this season but have yet to post three consecutive wins this year. They come into tonight on a two-game winning streak with wins at Edmonton and Philadelphia this week and an even 12-124 record on the season. Washington has not won three straight games since last year when they had a four-game winning streak in early April.
Seattle is led by winger Jared McCann’s 12 goals and comes into this game with five goals in his last five games. The nine-year veteran scored his 100th career goal earlier this season, his second with Seattle.
These teams met in Seattle on Dec. 1 with the Kraken earning a 3-2 home win when Matty Beniers scored on a breakaway just seven seconds into overtime.
This is the fourth matchup ever between the two franchises with the home teams winning all three of the previous meetings.
