The San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins are clocking in double shifts at the office lately. The Sharks have lost their last two games in overtime while four of Pittsburgh’s last five games have gone into extras. The Penguins have lost three of those four games. The win is the ultimate goal but it seems safe to say playing three periods tonight would be a close second for the Sharks and Pens tonight.

Pittsburgh lost in a shootout to Washington on Thursday losing 3-2. Who else but Alexander Ovechkin scored the first goal of the game while goalie Darcy Kuemper was elite in net making 35 saves. While nobody scored in the overtime period, Rickard Rakell got the first goal of the shootout. But that was all the Penguins could get as Nicklas Backstrom ended up scoring the game-winner.
San Jose lost 5-4 in OT against the Carolina Hurricanes in their last game. Carolina went up 2-1 just seconds into the third period but San Jose came roaring back scoring three straight. San Jose could not hold on giving up two goals in the last two minutes to tie the game. Martin Necas tied the game with just 12 seconds to go. To really put the dagger in the coffin, Necas scored the game-winner less than a minute into overtime. Both the Sharks and Penguins are looking to quickly move on from bitter defeats tonight.
