A season ago, the Florida Panthers (16-17-4) rolled to their first Presidents’ Trophy in franchise history, piling up 122 points before being stunned in the second round of the playoffs by the Lightning. On Sunday, the Panthers return home to FLA Live Arena in suburban Miami to host the New York Rangers (19-12-6), who have cooled off after an 8-1-0 stretch. New York has lost its last two games while Florida has dropped four of its last five. Carter Verhaeghe leads the Panthers with 18 goals while Matthew Tkachuk, acquired in a blockbuster trade last summer, has 17 goals and 43 points. Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider have 16 goals each for the Rangers. Panther goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has been shaky in 21 starts, with a .897 save percentage.

Florida was blanked 4-0 at Carolina on Friday night as they were outshot 34-19 in front of No. 2 goalie Spencer Knight.
New York lost the first leg of its trip to the Sunshine State, dropping a 2-1 shootout at Tampa Bay on Thursday. Zibanejad scored an unassisted goal midway through the first period and that held up until the Lightning tied the game 5:32 into the third period. The teams needed six rounds in the shootout before Adam Fox’s effort was stopped after Tampa Bay beat Igor Shesterkin.
This is the first of three meetings this season for the Rangers and Panthers, who will play twice in Florida. Last season, New York took two of three meetings, losing the lone game on the road.
