Losing six of their last nine games, the Montreal Canadiens continue a season-long, seven-game road trip tonight in Denver as they face the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. Montreal snapped a three-game losing skid on Monday night with Mike Hoffman’s seventh goal of the season just 68 seconds into overtime, giving the Canadiens a 3-2 road win at Arizona. After sleepwalking to a 13-10-2 start, Colorado has tightened up its defensive woes, winning four of its last five games. Tonight, it goes for its fourth win on this five-game homestand. Colorado has won two straight, including a 1-0 shootout win against the New York Islanders on Monday night.

The Avalanche own the National Hockey League’s sixth-best power-play unit, scoring on 27.2% of opportunities with the man advantage, despite posting only one power-play goal in their last seven games. Colorado has a trio of skaters with double-digit assists on the power play, led by winger Mikko Rantanen and defenseman Cale Makar’s 12 helpers.
Montreal is led by center Nick Suzuki’s 31 points, who is the only Canadiens skater with double-digit goals and assists. The 23-year-old is just six goals shy of tying a career-high for goals with 21, which he posted last season.
Colorado has won five of the last six games in this series with the Canadiens’ last win in Denver coming in January of 2014.
