A blaze scorched at least one mobile classroom, affecting several others at Eden Park Secondary School amid fire that broke out on August 21.
The blaze broke out just after noon according to one of the community members living opposite the school.
Although the blaze wrecked havoc, no injuries were sustained as fire emergencies were able to put out the blaze.
Local resident, Marilyn Kruger, told the Alberton Record they were the first to witness the fire.
They came to lock the toilets and after lunch they noticed smoke.
They then discovered that one of the mobile classrooms was on fire and then informed community members to assist.
Community leader, Pastor Anthony Wynkwaardt said about four mobile classrooms were affected with one completely gutted.
“By the looks of it, the gutted one was the one that caught fire either by accident or by arson and the rest was affected by the flames being blown in its direction. This is basically by observation because when we came there the fire was already extinguished,” he said.
He also said the sad part is that Grade eight and 10 learners are already disadvantaged because of the lack of classrooms.
“They are still attending classes as per the lockdown rules due to a shortage of classroom facilities and now this,” Wynkwaardt explained.
