The Los Angeles Kings play their penultimate game of this six-game East Coast road trip Tuesday night when they take on the Buffalo Sabres. With a win tonight, the Kings have a chance to move solely into second place above the Seattle Kraken for the second spot in the Pacific division. The Sabers meanwhile are trying to get out of a tie with the Ottawa Senators for the last spot in the Atlantic division. LA is coming off a tough overtime loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets by a 6-5 final. The Kings are trying to start the beginning of a streak as they haven’t won back-to-back games since the beginning of November. LA kept battling back against Columbus after the Blue Jackets scored the first two goals of the game. The Kings were down 5-3 after two periods but they held the Blue Jackets scoreless and tied the game at the end of regulation. Unfortunately for LA, it wasn’t enough as Johnny Gaudreau scored 40 seconds into overtime.

Buffalo is coming off back-to-back losses against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby scored two goals in a game where defenseman and locker room leader Kris Letang returned after 12 days after suffering a stroke. The Sabers were only down one in the third but they couldn’t generate enough early momentum to keep up with Pittsburgh scoring their lone goal late. Getting off to a quick start will be the biggest priority tonight.
