Kerr believes Warriors’ core still has plenty left in the tank originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
All good things must come to an end, and that includes dynasties.
But Warriors coach Steve Kerr is focused on the present — not reflecting on his team’s past success or future farewells.
Kerr on Thursday told 95.7 The Game’s “Willard and Dibs” he isn’t using Golden State’s up-and-down 2022-23 NBA season to reflect on the Warriors dynasty. Instead, he’s focused on prolonging it.
“We got caught up in the season. We’re just trying to win the next game,” Kerr said. “I know that this has been a special era to be part of with the Warriors, and the whole thing has kept me [saying], ‘How long can we keep it going?’ “
The Warriors’ core of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, who have played together for over a decade, has served as a driving force behind the dynasty that has won four NBA titles in the last eight seasons. As a transition from that dynastic core to the Warriors’ stars of tomorrow approaches, however, Kerr sees no reason why this same group can’t bring home a fifth Larry O’Brien trophy.
“You watch last night’s game, Steph sure looks like he’s got plenty left in the tank,” Kerr said of Curry’s 50-point performance against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, which came a day after the reigning NBA Finals MVP’s 35th birthday.
“You watch the night before, and Klay gets 33 [points] in the first half. Draymond’s play all year long has been really good on the defensive end, as well as getting us organized on offense.”
Despite their struggles on the road this season, the Warriors are No. 6 in the Western Conference and two games back from the No. 4 seed with 12 regular-season games remaining.

As they make their final playoff push, Kerr isn’t worried about any outside noise concerning fallen dynasties.
“These guys still have plenty in the tank, and we want to keep this thing going as long as we can, but you can’t get too wrapped up in that stuff,” Kerr said. “In our job, we just try to prepare for the next game and keep it going.”
