Due to a manufacturing issue, the recall notice said, the radiator may not be properly secured.

That could cause it to shift while the car is being driven, resulting in a loss of engine coolant.

A loss of coolant would then be conveyed to the driver but, if they’re ignored or not noticed, the engine could overheat and power to the car could be lost.

“A loss of vehicle power while driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” the recall notice says.

Owners of Volkswagen Golfs with a model year between 2019 and 2022 are being told to contact their preferred dealer to schedule an appointment.

Their vehicle would be inspected and, if required, the issue rectified free of charge.

More than 1200 cars were involved in the recall, the federal government said.
