Vodafone Ireland has launched a new online trade-in tool where customers can receive cash for their smartphones while doing their bit for the planet.
Existing Vodafone customers can avail of this green initiative though the online tool which can be accessed through a QR code on Vodafone’s website.
Once signed in to the service through the device’s IMEI code, customers verify the value of their smartphone through a range of device health checks, including cosmetic damage, touch sensitivity, screen condition and rear camera capabilities.
The tests verify the pixel capabilities of the devices by putting a grid on the phone screen and asking the customer to fill all the boxes.
Single points of sensitivity on the phone screen are also tested when the customer is asked to verify the location of a spot on the screen.
During the last test, the capability of the phone’s rear camera is assessed to check for cracks in the lens.
At the end of the tests the customer receives a quote for their device, who can then drop the phone off at their nearest DPD collection point for collection. Payment goes into a customer’s bank account in 5-7 working days, according to Vodafone.
In a test, an iPhone 11 64GB purchased in 2019 was valued at €33 by the automatic test.
Vodafone customers can avail of this scheme in-store, and they will be given store credit, which they can use towards the purchase of a new phone or accessories.
According to Vodafone, all trade-in devices are recycled and repurposed, and recycled parts are used in the manufacturing of new products.
Vodafone’s Anita Carr commented: “This new offer ultimately extends the life of mobile devices, reduces waste and encourages Irish consumers to embrace a circular green economy”.
