Virginia Tech upsets Tennessee rugby in the quarterfinals, 38-34

No. 9 Virginia Tech defeated No. 2 Tennessee, 38-34, Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Collegiate Rugby Championship at Tennessee Rugby Park.

Virginia Tech trailed, 22-5, during the contest.

Rankings reflect the final regular-season top 25 coaches poll.

Virginia Tech will play the winner between UMass and St. Joseph’s Dec. 3 at Penn State Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania. The national championship will take place Dec. 10 in Houston, Texas.

The Vols were seeking back-to-back national championships in 2022. Tennessee won the national title in 2021.

Tennessee won its third consecutive SCRC championship in 2022, defeating South Carolina 27-22 on Nov. 12.
