On Wednesday, Virginia Tech Head Coach Brent Pry confirmed that Redshirt Sophomore Wide Receiver Dallan Wright will miss the rest of the season due to injury. The 6-foot 176-pound wide receiver has yet to make his impact in the Maroon and Orange jersey, but his injury will delay any contributions on the gridiron for at least another season.
On Tuesday, The player revealed through his personal social media that he had successfully undergone surgery.
This news was shared by The Athletic’s Andy Bitteramong others, who was one of the media members on hand at Brent Pry’s Wednesday press conference.
The Redshirt Sophomore has yet to participate in game action for the Virginia Tech Hokies. In 2020, Wright did not see action and redshirted for the season. In 2021, Wright also did not see any action due to his placement on the depth chart.
Wright’s journey to Virginia Tech remains an eventful twist. The talented basketball player was a late evaluated prospect that blossomed during his high school team’s playoffs. He was offered by Virginia Tech as a Wide Receiver just ten days before National Signing Day.
He posted 1,507-yards receiving on 87 receptions (17.3 yards-per-reception) and 25 touchdowns as a senior in 2019. He added 103-yards rushing and two touchdowns with his legs, averaging over 9 yards-per-carry.
A talented basketball player as well, Wright held a basketball scholarship from Nichols State. He held football offers from Virginia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, and others.
He was regarded as the No. 1,345 prospects in the country per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. In the class of 2020, Wright was listed as the No. 195 Wide Receiver Prospect Nationally and the No. 23 prospects out of South Carolina.
