Four-star CB Asaad Brown Jr out of 757 powerhouse Oscar Smith HS is one of the top 10 in-state recruits for the 2024 class with plenty of interest from all over America. As the focus shifts to the 2024 cycle, is he starting to have some schools stand out for him?
“I have a few that are standing out. Now that signing is over, I will see who really wants me to be a part of their program,” Brown said.
Brown added that Virginia Tech is one of those schools that has this to say about why the Hokies are standing out for him.
“(CBs) Coach (Derek) Jones and I communicate a lot, and I feel like Virginia Tech could be back on the come up especially with his history of DBs,” Brown said.
When we asked him about his relationship with CBs coach Derek Jones, he had this to say both about his relationship with Jones and his trust in the VT staff as a whole.
“So you know I’m feeling Tech. I’m seeing a lot of my in-state peers trust the staff and I’m building a strong relationship with them as well,” Brown said. “Coach Jones is a down to earth person and we converse a lot about life and not just football.”
Tech’s major interest in Brown shouldn’t come as a surprise after he had a strong junior season with 2 interceptions, 1 pick 6, 9 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 64 tackles. Brown added that he only allowed 3 catches all season including no passing plays for 20+ yards plus no blown assignments.
So how would Brown describe his strengths and weaknesses following a strong junior season?
“I feel like I was more focused. 7v7 helped slow the game down. I can improve on eye discipline and trusting my speed more. Overall, I felt I had a good season but always room for improvement,” Brown said.
He also laid out his goals for his development this offseason.
“Stay focused and work. I’ll be headed to college this time next year so body transformation and speed work are my focus,” Brown said.
Looking ahead, Brown told us that he is planning to visit several schools including Virginia Tech, Florida State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, NC State, and Mississippi State. He expects to visit most of those schools during the 7v7 season although he added that he is planning to visit the Mississippi schools in February.
So when is Brown planning to make his decision?
“As soon as I feel that a program is right, I will commit on the spot,” Brown said.
He added this on what he is looking for in the college that he will choose.
“Development to potentially play at the next level. I also want to be a part of a winning culture,” Brown said.
Virginia Tech is off to a good start in four-star CB Asaad Brown Jr’s recruitment with the Hokies hoping to land Brown as a star piece in their 2024 class.
