Superlight electric dirt bikes, which occupy the space between electric mountain bikes and full-fledged enduro bikes, are becoming increasingly popular. After Surron, another Chinese manufacturer is now looking to expand its presence in this rapidly growing market segment, and Velimotor’s recently unveiled new two-wheeler called the “VMX08” looks quite promising to say the least.
Most notably, the electric dirt bike turns heads with its extremely low weight of just 47.5 kilograms (105 lbs). Its 72-volt electric motor with 6,000 watts or around 8 hp of peak power matches the comparable Surron Light Bee X. The competitor also has 220 Nm of torque and can accelerate to up to 62 miles per hour, while the 45 Ah battery can store enough energy for a range of up to 68 miles on more leisurely rides. Furthermore, the Velimotor VMX08 can accommodate fairly heavy drivers who weigh up to 330 lbs.
In terms of price, the off-road capable electric motorcycle officially starts at US$3,080, which undercuts the popular Surron Light Bee X by a quite significant margin. Unfortunately, some US-based vendors have already listed the Velimotor VMX 08 for more than twice its MSRP. Due to its fairly impressive top speed, buyers should also check if the electric motorcycle is street legal in their respective state or region. Either way, the electric dirt bike looks like a fun little toy that should be worth its official price tag.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
