ROCKINGHAM — A little under two minutes of soccer was played on Monday before inclement weather postponed the match.
The Richmond Raider varsity team played a total of 1:47 of scoreless soccer against non-conference Independence High School.
A strong line of thunderstorms and lightning initially delayed the game at 7:08 pm, starting a mandatory 30-minute delay.
Head coach Chris Larsen confirmed at 7:44 pm that the game was postponed and that a make-up date is in the works.
The Raiders (0-1-1) will get their next chance for their first win of the season with another non-conference home game on Wednesday.
The varsity only match against Purnell Swett High School (1-1) will begin at 6 pm
JV Raiders suffer their first loss of the season
Richmond’s junior varsity team returned to action on Monday after five days off since its season opener. The JV Raiders also played Independence, and fell by the final score of 7-1.
Independence took a 3-0 lead in the first half and made it a 4-0 game early in the second half.
The JV Raiders would find the back of the net in the 49th minute off a set piece.
Sophomore Landon Dunn sent a corner kick into the box from the right side, and freshman Dougie Dickerson crashed the net and headed the ball inside the back post.
During the game’s closing 20 minutes, the JV Patriots scored three more times. Richmond’s goalkeeper Robert Ammons made a save on a penalty kick in the closing minutes.
The Richmond JV team (0-1-1) will return to action on Aug. 30 with a home match against Central Academy at 6 pm
