Vancouver Canucks deal Bo Horvat to NY Islanders

And just like that, a boring NHL trade season just got exciting with Monday’s blockbuster deal.

The Vancouver Canucks did their first piece of “major surgery” on the disappointing team’s roster by trading captain Bo Horvat, an All-Star, to the New York Islanders for forwards Anthony Beauvillier and Aatu Raty and a protected 2023 first-round draft pick.

Horvat was a pending unrestricted free agent, and Canucks president Jim Rutherford recently said the team had made its best offer.

Here is analysis on the bigger deals or other moves that have taken place leading up to the March 3 NHL trade deadline. There will be a live blog on deadline day.

Bo Horvat, heading to the All-Star Game, has scored 31 goals this season.
