SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Tech offense couldn’t find a rhythm as they dropped their fifth straight, falling 18-13 to Sam Houston State.
The Trailblazers (1-6, 0-3) hosted Sam Houston State (4-2, 1-0) at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George, UT on Saturday, October 22.
Both sides started slowly in this one with Utah Tech scoring the only first quarter points on a Connor Brooksby 28-yard field goal to finish a 14-play, 65-yard drive for the Trailblazers.
Utah Tech defense got the job done in the opening 15 minutes as they held Sam Houston to 63 yards in the first quarter.

The Bearcats responded in the second quarter. Piecing together a long drive before it stalled inside the Trailblazers 10-yard line. Seth Morgan nailed a chip-shot field goal, tying the game 3-3.
The game remained tied at three after one half of play.

Morgan added two more field goals in the third period, staking the Bearcats to a 9-3 advantage.
The Trailblazer offense continued to struggle, surrendering a third quarter safety when Caleb Weaver broke the Utah Tech offensive line for a sack.

Following the free kick, Sam Houston State took command with their first touchdown drive of the night. Keegan Shoemaker found Al’Vonte Woodard for an eight-yard scoring strike, giving the Bearcats an 18-3 lead.
With just under 13 minutes remaining, Brooksby hit his second field goal of the game, this one coming in a driving rain. The field goal made the score 18-6.
After forcing a Sam Houston punt, Utah Tech scored their first touchdown of the game when Victor Gabalis found Joey Hobert for a 10-yard touchdown.

Sam Houston would go on to win, 18-13.
Gabalis finished 16-0f-37 through the air for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Quali Conley had 15 carries for 75 yards and Hobert hauled in seven catches for 55 yards and a score.
