In an interview with a Chicago reporter, Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo said he could see himself playing for the Bulls ‘down the line,’ and an unknown person has been calling various teams to discuss possible trades for Bears’ linebacker Roquan Smith.
Video Transcript
GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO: You know, it’s a team that won multiple championships, a team that one of the greatest players– if not the greatest player to ever play this game– played for. So it’s a no-brainer. Everybody would love to play for Chicago. Down the line, you never know. You never know how life brings it. Maybe– Maybe I’ll play for Chicago.
JARED QUAY: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Did I hear that correctly? Giannis Antetokounmpo says that he would be open to playing for the Chicago Bulls?
– What is going on?
JARED QUAY: In an interview with FOX 32 Chicago, the Milwaukee Bucks star stated, who wouldn’t want to play for the team that Michael Jordan played for? And then down the line, who knows? Maybe Giannis will be suiting up in red and white.
OK, OK. Calm down, Buck fans. It’s not the end of the world. Giannis just signed a huge deal a couple of years ago, and he isn’t even a free agent until 2025.
And he was getting interviewed by a Chicago reporter. What is he going to say? Hell no, I don’t like this city. It’s too cold, it’s windy, the pizza is overrated, and New York’s way better.
– How rude.
JARED QUAY: Exactly. That would be rude. Plus, we conveniently didn’t play the end of the interview clip.
GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO: But right now, I’m committed to Milwaukee.
JARED QUAY: Sorry, Bucks fans. We couldn’t help ourselves. This Roquan Smith story is getting–
– –stranger and stranger.
JARED QUAY: It started out normal enough. Smith is in the last year of his rookie deal with the Bears and will make $9 million. He’s a stud linebacker and feels Chicago low-balled him in a take it or leave it contract offer. So he put in a trade request; pretty straightforward.
– So far so good.
JARED QUAY: But now, allegedly a random ass person has been calling up front offices around the league, claiming to represent Roquan and has been trying to discuss possible trades for the linebacker. And no one knows who this person is, or if he’s even related to Smith in any way.
– Who the hell is this?
JARED QUAY: And this rogue fake agent has made enough waves that the NFL Management Council has sent a warning to all 32 teams, reminding them not to take calls about players under contract.
– It’s a violation of the galactic treaty.
JARED QUAY: Good on the NFL. Because if I knew it was that easy to represent professional athletes and make millions of dollars putting in some phone calls, well then what the hell am I doing here?
Look, how are you doing? It’s Odell Beckham’s agent. Look, we’ll take $5,000 a day. You can send it to my Venmo, @JaredQuay. I’ll pay him out of my own pocket.
All right, you know what? I’ll do 4,500 ’cause he likes your team. Well then, fine. That’s why you’re the Browns, you suck.
