UNI women’s golf: Panthers tied for fifth after first round of Briar Ridge Invitational

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. — UNI women’s golf sits in a three-way tie for 5th place after the first round of play at the Briar Ridge Invitational, hosted by UIC.

The Panthers finished the first day of competition tied with Purdue-Fort Wayne and Cleveland State with a team score of 317. Defending tournament champion Morehead State leads by 17 strokes after carding a 300 on the first 18 holes of the 10-team event.

Junior Anna Jensen led the Panther women by carding a team-best 75 (+3) on Sunday with a pair of birdies on the front nine to finish the day tied for 8th place. Allison Nuss spirit Anna Nacos both shot 80 (+8) on the day to move into a tie for 38th place, with Nuss recording a birdie on the 16th hole. Nacos sank two birdies on the back nine on the 14th and 18th holes. Lily Bredemeier notched an 82 (+10) on day one, sitting in a tie for 44th after a birdie on the 12th hole, while McKenna Mallow recorded birdies on holes 5 and 15 for a first round score of 86 (+14), sitting in a tie for 64th on the leaderboard.

UNI resumes play with the final round of the Briar Ridge Invitational tomorrow morning with a 9 am CT shotgun start.
