Ubisoft Hints On PC-Only Subscription Service To Soon Launch On Xbox

Ubisoft has been known around the world for its open-world games. The elite game developer has been going places lately as a recent announcement suggests that they might be launching their PC-only services on Xbox.

The Assassin’s Creed developer might be working on a subscription plan to rent their games to Xbox players on a monthly subscription basis. The recent news may soon see the light publicly. But how might it change the gaming market?

Ubisoft to launch Ubisoft+ services on Xbox

Ubisoft has been making games since 1986, with popular titles like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry franchise, Watch Dogs, and many more. Thus, to allow players to play these games on cloud gaming service Stadia and PC, they launched Uplay+ aka Ubisoft+ for gamers in 2019.

The latest statement by Ubisoft’s senior VP of strategic partnerships and business development, Chris Early said that the service will launch for Xbox in January 2023. Regarding this, he said, “We will offer the Ubisoft+ subscription service to Xbox owners so that they can enjoy the full extent of our Ubisoft+ game library, including new releases, on their consoles.“

Notably, it is not yet clear if the service will be brought to PlayStation as well. Since PlayStation itself has a subscription plan known as PlayStation+ with many exclusives also including classics from Ubisoft. Additionally, the subscription service will offer access to over 100 Ubisoft titles, including new games and DLC at launch, for $14.99 / £12.99 / €14.99 per month.

Recently, a backend scraper for Microsoft services by the name of Aggiornamenti Lumia uploaded a logo for Ubisoft+ on Twitter. The post got started getting some attention as fans asked why it wasn’t brought to Xbox eight months ago. Also, it was unclear if the subscription service will be a part of the Game Pass service on Xbox.

Notably, Tencent, China’s largest video game company, and the developer of PUBG Mobile, is trying to have a bigger stake in Ubisoft. In recent news, it was disclosed that the company already has a 5% stake at the company and is trying to increase it. Although, what this might bring new to the gaming industry is still unclear, but it surely proves that Ubisoft has a huge influence in the market.
