AUBURNDALE ― For the first time in a 28-year program history, the U15 girls Auburndale Scream advanced to the southern regionals.

The girls soccer program was able to get the chance after competing in the Florida State Premier League for the first time, winning most of its games and competing in the Florida State President’s Cup over the weekend. The Scream beat the St. Pete Raiders 2-1 – Parker Purdie and Harley Head scored — in the semifinals before winning 1-0 over the Brandon Fish Hawks in the finals on Sunday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Second-year head coach Kristi Durden said she was incredibly proud of her program.

“I’m beyond proud. Two years ago, we started out a little rough around the edges,” Durden said. “We are incredibly proud of them.”

The lone scorer for Auburndale in the finals was Head, who received a pass from Brooke Shannon before booting the ball in for the game’s only score.

With the efforts, Auburndale (10-6-4) will now move on to the southern regionals slated for June 14-18 in Greenville, South Carolina.

“We plan to work extremely hard within the next six weeks, and I have total confidence they’ll do well in South Carolina,” Durden said.

The competitive soccer program is for young soccer players who are aspiring to play at a higher level than just recreational. The ultimate goal is to get the girl athletes to play at the highest possible level and prepare for college.

Tryouts will be early May for next year’s team. For more information, go to auburndalescream.demosphere.
