Tyrese Maxey gives thoughts on PJ Tucker, other new additions to the Sixers

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers are going to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference heading into the 2022-23 season as they have one of the most talented rosters in the NBA.

They are led by a star duo in the form of Joel Embiid and James Harden, a rising star in Tyrese Maxey, and a do-it-all forward in the form of Tobias Harris. They have also been boosted this offseason with new additions by the front office.

The Sixers have been busy in the offseason as they traded for De’Anthony Melton on draft night and they also worked quickly in free agency to bring in PJ Tucker as well as Danuel House Jr. All three of those guys are expected to help the Sixers and be a part of their rotation.

“I think the guys bring toughness,” said Maxey on Saturday at his 1% skills camp. “They bring toughness to our team and it’s gonna be great to see them at camp and I can’t wait to get started.”

Tucker, especially, was a part of the Miami Heat team that eliminated the Sixers in the playoffs and he also won a ring with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021. He is expected to give Philadelphia a boost in the toughness area which was something the team harped on on that they needed after they were eliminated.

“Most definitely,” said Maxey. “I think they’ll definitely help us with mental toughness. I think they’ll also help with just the physical toughness. The grit and the grind that we need to bring to our team and also, I think guys like PJ, he’s gonna bring the championship mentality. I think we’re really gonna appreciate him for that.”

As training camp continues to approach for this team, the additions of Tucker, Melton, and House Jr. figure to play a big role in what the sixers have to do in the coming season.
