Montreal Canadiens: Details Emerging About Potential Kirby Dach Contract
The Montreal Canadiens made a number of trades leading up to the trade deadline last season. As the bottom feeder in the standings, it made sense that most of those deals saw veteran players being shipped out of town.
They also took back a couple of veteran players, mostly to balance out the number of contracts and cap hits in their trades. One of those players was Tyler Pitlick, and although he was a respected veteran player upon arrival, he was also injured and never got a chance to show his stuff to the Canadiens management team.
Pitlick, a cousin of Habs winger Rem Pitlick did eventually suit up for 14 games with the Habs down the stretch, but they were a dead team walking and he was coming off an injury and wasn’t really in 100% game shape. Fortunately for the 30 year old veteran winger, he is going to get one more chance to prove himself at the NHL level.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota native has signed a professional tryout agreement with the St. Louis Blues. This doesn’t guarantee him a spot with the team this season, as it just means he is joining them for training camp and he can play in preseason games as he tries to earn a roster spot.
The 6’2″ and 200 pound right shooting winger has played some good hockey in the past, including a 14 goal season with the Dallas Stars while playing a responsible defensive game.
Pitlick was a small piece in the Tyler Toffoli trade with the Calgary Flames, and his short stint with the Canadiens included just one goal and three points. He may have been squeezed out of Montreal by the large number of veteran wingers already in town and on large contracts, but thankfully he will get another chance to prove he is still an NHL player.
The Canadiens first preseason game will be held Monday, September 26th.
