Two Colts golfers earn all-state honors, Rolla Frisinger named Regional Coach of the Year

The accolades keep coming in for Hillsdale Academy boys golf athletes and coaches. After a program-best season that included a runner-up finish at the MHSAA LP D4 Golf State Finals, two Colts earned all-state honors and head coach Rolla Frisinger was recognized by The Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association.

Coach Frisinger was named the 2023 Regional Boys golf coach of the year by the MIGCA. Coach Frisinger will be honored at the MIGCA Hall of Fame banquet on August 1. In his first two seasons at the helm of the Colts, Frisinger has captured two SCAA conference championships, a regional championship and a runner-up finish at the D4 state finals . The runner-up finish was the highest-ever finish in a season for the Cols golf team.

Junior Rykert Frisinger earned D4 all-state honors from the MIGCA. Frisinger finished first at the SCAA conference championship and was number one in the final jamboree individual standings. Rykert won the conference championship with a final score of 73. He had 12 total pars and two birdies.

Frisinger tied for the individual regional title and helped his team earn the 2022 regional championship. Frisinger had a final score of 75 in the championship, earning two birdies and 11 total pars. At the state finals, Frisinger finished tied for third place with a final two-day score of 150.

He managed to par all-but-one hole on the back nine on day one. He had an additional five on the front nine. On day two, Frisinger shot par on every hole of the front-nine. He had four pars and a birdie on the back nine. His efforts helped seal the runner-up finish for the team.

In addition to his MHSAA tournament success, he had numerous top three finishes at other tournaments. He earned the top golfer award at the Hanover-Horton Invitational.

His junior teammate, Ridley Fast, earned D4 all-state honors from the MIGCA. The junior Colt had a second-place finish in the conference. At the conference championship, his second-place finish saw him score a final round total of 79. He had two birdies and a total of seven pars at the conference championship meet.

He had tied for third place overall at the regional finals, helping seal the team’s regional championship title. He had a final score of 77. He had a total of 10 pars and two birdies during the championship match.

At the D4 state finals, Fast helped the Colts earn runner-up with his fifth overall finish. He had a final score of 152, just two strokes behind teammate and fellow all-state honoree Rykert Frisinger. He had 11 pars on day one of the tournament and one birdie. He had 12 pars on day two and another birdie shot. Both of his birdie attempts came on the front nine, one on a par-four and another on a par-three.

In addition to his MHSAA season success, Fast also had impressive tournament finishes throughout the season. One of his most impressive performances of the season came at the John Matthew Krutsch Invitational at the Medalist Golf Course. Fast tied for first place at the tournament. He had two birdies on the front nine and two on the back nine. He also had a total of nine pairs.

Both Fast and Frisinger led the team at individual moments in scoring in the 2023 season. Both juniors earned recognition for their efforts throughout the season. They will return as senior leaders on a Colts golf team with state championship aspirations. Both golfers will participate in offseason events, and Ridley Fast will return to the soccer field this fall with the Colts varsity soccer team.
