Twitter: 400 million user profiles reportedly up for sale following new data breach

A database containing an allegedly “devastating” amount of personal data is reportedly being offered for sale by a “threat actor” that claims to have derived the information from a vulnerability in Twitter’s defenses. According to a cybersecurity company, the affected users number in the hundreds of millions and include “high profile” individuals such as Ether creator Vitalik Buterin.

According to the “cybercrime intelligence company.”Hudson Rock, Twitter has been the subject of a new data leak that has put a sizeable repository of user data in a “threat actor’s” hands. This incident apparently occurred earlier in 2022, although the breach in question has only just now been made public.

The sensitive nature of the information involved reportedly extends to the “emails and phone numbers of high profile users“such as Vitalik Buterin, as well as those of companies or entities such as Linus Tech Tips and SpaceX.

It appears that the malicious entity in question intimates that Twitter or its owner Elon Musk should pay for the return of the data rather than face “GDPR breach limits“.

On the other hand, Hudson Rock has conceded that it isnot possible” to validate the alleged attacker’s estimate that ~400 million users have been affected in this manner.

Then again, the group claims that an independent check of the data has resulted in findings that it islegitimately
