Game notes: Stripling isn’t quite as great as he was in June (1.59 ERA in 28⅓ innings over six starts with one relief appearance) but he has been pretty good in July. Over his four starts this month, Stripling is 1-1 with a 3.05 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 20⅔ innings. Javier Baez (6-for-9 with a home run) and Tucker Barnhart (0-for-5) are the only Detroit hitters with more than three at-bats vs. Stripling, who has made two appearances, with one start, vs. the Tigers. He allowed one hit and struck out four over six scoreless innings in a win at Comerica Park last month.

Hutchison pitched in Rogers Center about 11 months ago, going 4⅓ and allowing four hits, a walk and a run while striking out one. He has dealt with a lot of traffic lately, giving up six hits, four runs and two in each of his past two starts — neither of which went longer than five innings. George Springer is hitless in five ABs vs. Hutchison, and all other Toronto hitters have two ABs or fewer. The Blue Jays haven’t lost a series since July 7-10.

The series ends with a noon start Sunday, then the Tigers go to Minnesota for three games. The Jays travel to Florida to play the Rays beginning Tuesday.
