DALLAS — The New York Rangers scored three goals in a 2:07 span in the third period to defeat the Dallas Stars 6-3 at the American Airlines Center on Saturday.
Vincent Trocheck had two goals and an assist, and Mika Zibanejad had a goal and two assists for the Rangers (4-3-2), who had lost four straight (0-2-2). Igor Shesterkin made 30 saves.
“Good road game. Two good points,” New York coach Gerard Gallant said. “There was some sloppy play in the second, back-and-forth, wide-open, but I thought in the third we played really well, obviously got some great goals.”
Jason Robertson had a goal and an assist for the Stars (5-3-1). Jake Oettinger made eight saves before leaving the game at 6:23 in the second period due to a lower-body injury.
“I think he obviously left so there’s an injury there,” Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. “The doctors are seeing him now. I’m sure there will be some tests. I’m sure we’ll have some updates tomorrow. It looked like he caught his skate foot on the post. … Fluky thing.”
Scott Wedgewood replaced Oettinger and made 13 saves.
“Next man up mentality,” Wedgewood said. “Obviously, he’s a big part of us. He’s proven it early. He’s been on an elite level. Just do what I can to help the team win and fill those shoes.”

Zac Jones scored his first NHL goal at 11:18 of the third period to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead.
“Once you get the first one out of the way, then the ball starts to roll,” Jones said. “To help the team get a win tonight, that was huge. Means more than the first goal for sure.”
The Rangers pushed the lead to 5-3 just 19 seconds later after Wedgewood came out of his net to play the puck. Julien Gauthier skated around him and shot into an open net.
“Pretty sure I had him,” Gauthier said about beating Wedgewood to the puck on the play. “I was pretty much full speed and I was like, ‘This might be a tough timing for him.’ I had pretty good odds that it was going in.”
With an extra skater on the ice during a delayed penalty, Trocheck scored his second of the game at 13:25 for the 6-3 final.
“Our [defensive] zone kind of got away from us in the third,” Robertson said. “All our wins were tight, nothing really blew the game wide open. We’ve never dealt with that this season. We have a big leadership group, a lot of people who have been in this situation. We’re all waiting to respond on Tuesday (against the Los Angeles Kings).”
Mason Marchment scored 1:09 into the first period to give Dallas a 1-0 lead, snapping the puck over the glove of Shesterkin from the slot.
Chris Kreider tied it 1-1 at 8:41 on a rebound at the side of the net after Oettinger got caught moving in his crease.

Trocheck gave New York a 2-1 lead 59 seconds into the second period with a power-play goal.
“First (goal), on the power play, it was just a great seam pass from Mika,” Trocheck said. “[Panarin] wasn’t out there, so I just tried to find some open ice on the other side.”
Roope Hintz tied the game 2-2 at 1:28 when he capitalized on a rebound in front of the net.
Zibanejad gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead at 14:18, tapping in an Artemi Panarin pass in front of the net on the power play.
Robertson tied it 3-3 at 18:46 of the second when he won the puck off the face-off and beat Shesterkin five-hole from the slot.
Robertson then appeared to give Dallas a 4-3 lead 3:51 into the third, but Gallant challenged the play for offside, and the call on the ice was overturned.
“We didn’t do enough to dictate the game for sure, and you want to dictate here at home,” DeBoer said. “They should have to adjust to us, and I didn’t think that was the case.”
NOTES: Shesterkin (4-0-2) became the first Rangers goalie to start the season without a regulation loss in his first six games since Eddie Mio (5-0-0 with two ties in 1981-82). … New York was 2-for-5 on the power play. … The Stars lost at home for the first time this season (3-1-0). They had outscored opponents 11-2 in their first three home games. … Rangers forward Vitaly Kravtsov sustained an upper-body injury at 12:27 in the second period after battling for the puck with Stars defenseman Jani Hakanpaa in the corner. Gallant said he is day-to-day.
