Trillium grant goes to Peterborough City Soccer

  • by

A $47,400 Ontario Trillium Fund donation helped the Peterborough City Soccer Association rally from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith joined the club on Friday afternoon at the Marc Buchan Soccer Center at Eastgate Memorial Park to hear how the Community Building Fund grant awarded last year helped it keep delivering programs the community relies on through the summer and winter. The grant was designed to assist non-profits that had been impacted as a result of the pandemic.

“Soccer is a well-loved game here in Peterborough-Kawartha and we are fortunate to have a place where youth can come to play and learn within the community,” stated Smith, in a club press release. “This grant of $47,400 will allow the Peterborough City Soccer Association to continue providing programming and investing in the players while promoting a love of the game.”

Funds were used by the club to maintain its facilities, assist with staffing and coaches costs, and to keep moving forward, despite lockdowns and distancing.

Club president Dan Moore called the club “a vital community service, which allowed us to create some normalcy in kids’ lives, giving them the opportunity to play and socialize once again. It was important for the physical, social, and mental health of our youth and our community.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested nearly $209M into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Since 2020, OTF has supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
