It turns out Cam Akers may not be the only NFL running back on the move before the trade deadline. At least, that is if you take Melvin Gordon III’s likes on Twitter seriously.
Even if you don’t, it’s hard to see Gordon sticking around unless he’s keen on sitting on the bench all season.
Gordon cut a dejected figure on Monday when he was sidelined during the Denver Broncos’ 19-16 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers after just three carries for eight yards.
The 29-year-old’s ball security has been his biggest issue this year, having fumbled the ball four times this season, losing two and it is hardly a new problem for Gordon.

But even still, Gordon was at a loss on Monday to explain why he was kept out of the game, with new addition Latavius Murray appearing to take over as Denver’s lead back.
“I am a little bitter that we lost the game,” Gordon told the NFL Network.
“I don’t know. Me and you both kind of clueless on that,” he added when asked why he was benched after the first quarter.
“I’m sure it will be a conversation that’s had but to tell you exactly what happened – I can’t tell you because I don’t know.
“[I was] kind of just waiting for my number to be called so I can go out there and help my teammates. It was a close game. I feel like I could’ve helped make a difference, but apparently not.”
Now Gordon may be making a difference earlier if his activity on Twitter is anything to go by, liking a number of eyebrow-raising tweets, including one suggesting he is traded for Akers.
It is hardly what Denver needs as it looks to overcome a spluttering start to the season, with the offense struggling to get going even after the addition of quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson has looked a shadow of his former self while new coach Nathaniel Hackett’s play-calling has been questionable to say the least.
“Frustration. It’s frustration,” Gordon said of the overall feeling in the locker room.
“You see a glimpse of plays that we make out there and then we just can’t find a rhythm and it’s a consistent story at this point but I think that’s the most frustrating part. We just keep showing flashes but flashes [are] not enough to get it done in this league.
“More than anything right now – a lot of people are looking down on us – more than anything we’ve got to stick together as a team and just find a way. It’s not over… you can find a way. There’s always a way. It’s still early.”
