It’s game day.

After close to three years, the town of Twillingate is finally getting its Kraft Hockeyville NHL pre-season game, won back in 2020 and delayed due to COVID.

The Stanley Cup paid a visit to JM Olds Collegiate yesterday along with the mascots for the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators as part of community celebrations held yesterday. NHL Alumni Stephane Richer of the Montreal Canadiens and Chris Neil of the Ottawa Senators met with residents at the George Hawkins arena yesterday evening.

The big ticket event, a pre-season game between the Habs and the Sens, is taking place this evening at the Steele Arena in Gander.

Mayor Justin Blackler says it’s been a long time coming, but residents are excited. He admits that the limited capacity leaves them with some serious challenges.

He says they only had about 200 tickets available with 4,000 to 5,000 people looking for tickets. “I don’t think there was any plan that anyone could come up with to satisfy everybody.”

In the meantime, tonight’s game will be broadcast on Montreal-based TVA which is available as an app and through some cable packages.
