“The Raptors got screwed with their schedule.”
“What’s with that 7-game opening slate against East playoff contenders?”
“That’s not fair that Toronto ends the season with two in Boston and a finale against the Bucks!”
If you’ve seen some variation of those statements in your timeline, don’t worry — the Toronto Raptors are in a much better position than you’re being led to believe. Aside from a promising schedule, most of the players have been seen at the famous Rico Hines runs. Getting some valuable reps before training camp starts, especially with other NBA stars like James Harden, Steph Curry, and Trae Young, should do wonders for the squad.
In This Episode:
8:10 — Rico Hines Runs & the Raptors takeover
Every Summer, NBA stars make their way to UCLA and train with the best, under the tutelage of the new Raptors Assistant Coach, Rico Hines. Coincidence or not, almost every single Raptor has been seen at these runs and they’re looking good. Scottie Barnes has looked even better than his standout rookie campaign. Christian Koloko is fitting right in with his new teammates. The hype train is filling up!
18:20 — Breaking down the schedule
Sure, the Raptors don’t have a Christmas Day game and only have four nationally televised games (no, we are not including NBA TV), but there’s a lot to like from the schedule. The Raptors will travel less than most other teams and have a rest advantage in more situations than most. There are even some positives that can be gleaned from the difficult opening and closing of the season.
44:35 — Some wagering food for thought
Is there good value plays to pounce on before training camp battles kick-off? How are the Raptors’ odds looking? What’s a parlay? In one of my more cringy moments as a podcaster, I fumble my way through these questions with Jason!
