Top NHL picks November 27: Bank on Ottawa to cash in on its chances

  • by

With five NHL games in action on Sunday, we’re targeting three matchups taking place in the later window.

The pregame narrative: The Ottawa Senators have been as unlucky as anyone this month, at least on offense. Also, the Seattle Kraken came into the night quite a tear and the San Jose Sharks have a rest advantage at home.

Below are our NHL picks for November 27.

Odds as of 9:35 am on 11/27/2022.

NHL picks

Best Bet : Senators over 3 goals (+123)

Ottawa has been playing high-event hockey all month without being properly rewarded.

Since November began, the Senators are proving to be an offensive force at 5-on-5:

Category Value NHL rank
Corsi/60 67.84 2nd
High-danger chances/60 13.41 6th
Goals/60 2.14 22nd
xGoals/60 3.14 1st

Despite tons of chances — quality ones, too — Ottawa is scoring at a below-average clip. There’s an entire goal-per-hour difference between their actual and expected production, which is the largest disparity in the league.

The 29th-ranked shooting percentage (6.4%) certainly hasn’t helped. But we see hope on the horizon.

But after being held to just one goal in three consecutive games, the Senators popped five on Friday to open their West Coast trip.

If that’s a sign of some positive regression, then over 3 goals becomes a very reasonable number to bet on.

Ottawa will try to keep things rolling tonight against a Kings squad that has allowed three-plus goals in five of its past seven games.

Key stats: Despite some poor shooting luck recently, the Senators still average 3.15 goals per game on the season.

Quick picks

Kraken moneyline, 60 minutes (-107): Seattle enters Sunday’s game on a bonafide heater, winning eight of its past 10 games. Anaheim, on the other hand, has dropped seven of 10.

The Kraken lost to the Ducks on opening night, but they’re in much better form now. This month, Seattle has scored 65.0% of the 5-on-5 goals in its games, while Anaheim has only scored 40.1%.

Sharks moneyline (-103): The Sharks have only won once in their past five games, but we like them in this spot against the Canucks.

Vancouver has won the first two games of its road trip, but now it’ll have to play for the second consecutive night on the road. The Canucks are 1-3 when playing on no rest this season, losing all three road games in that situation.
