Top Drawer Soccer Announces Final Recruiting Class Rankings, Preseason Awards

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Top Drawer Soccer has announced its preseason awards that feature High Point University men’s soccer players Holden Trent and Jefferson Amayaas well as its final 2022 recruiting class rankings.

Trent, who has started all three preseason games for the Panthers in goal, was named the TDS Preseason Best XI Third Team Goalkeeper. He finished the 2021 season with the highest save percentage in the Big South and was also named the conference’s 2022 Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.

Head coach Zach Haines: “Holden has worked tirelessly to put himself in this position. He has grown and developed as a player and person as much as anyone I have seen because he has been willing to work. I have no doubt he will continue to prove himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the country throughout the season.”

Amaya earned a spot on the Freshman Best XI team as a midfielder. The Huntersville, NC native was ranked 124th in TDS’s Class of 2022. He has played on the El Salvador Youth National Team, was a captain of the 2021 ECNL National Championship team, and signed an academy contract with the Charlotte Independence USL League 1 team this spring.

Zach Haines: “Jefferson is going to make a huge impact on our program. He has all the tools to become a top player and big time leader.”

In June, the Panthers were reported to have the No. 17 recruiting class in the nation, according to TDS, but in the final rankings posted August 23rd, HPU has jumped two spots to No. 15.

Zach Haines: “This recruiting class has shown their quality and readiness in preseason. They have had a great start on the field, and as we expected, they have fit in seamlessly to the team. I have high hopes for the impact these guys will make over time.”

High Point opens the regular season at Vert Stadium on Thursday, August 27that 7:00 pm The Panthers host Davidson before traveling to Georgetown on Sunday, August 30th.
