Jul. 6—LENOX — Three runs in the first inning led the Tigers to a 4-1 district win over the rival Bedford Bulldogs Wednesday at home.
The Tigers found revenge in their third matchup this season after falling 5-0 in May and 4-3 in June.
In the first inning, Samson Adams hit a double to send Carter Reed home before stealing home on a wild pitch.
Senior Trenton Beck hit a single to send Keigan Kitzman home for their third run.
Adams pitched a clean game for the Tigers, throwing 57 strikes on 84 pitches, striking out five batters and allowing only one run early.
Neither team was able to make it home in the next few innings despite Gabe Funk making it to third base on an electric triple in the bottom of the fourth.
Second baseman Walon Cook was instrumental in the fifth inning, tagging a runner out at second and following with getting a runner out stealing second.
In the sixth, centerfielder Funk showed off his speed, with consecutive catches before a strikeout ended the inning without a Bulldogs score.
In the sixth, Cook was walked, Brody Brokaw brought in to run for the catcher.
Brokaw stole second on a wild pitch before being sent home by a single from Beck.
The game ended in the seventh with a strikeout, fly out to Beck and a line drive caught by Kitzman to keep the Tigers alive.
Lenox (19-7) faces Mount Ayr (10-7) at 7 pm Saturday at home after the Raiders defeated Coon Rapids-Bayard (25-5) 3-2 Wednesday.
The winner will be named District Four Champion and will play Tuesday to qualify for state.
