Tiger Woods talks up son Charlie’s golf chances ahead of return to course action | Golf | Sport

Tiger Woods has talked up his son Charlie’s golf game, with the pair set to return to action this weekend. Being the son of arguably the greatest golfer to play the game no doubt comes with pressures, but 13-year-old Charlie is doing his best to follow in his dad’s footsteps.

The youngster’s fame has sky-rocketed over the past year thanks to an impressive performance alongside his 82-time PGA Tour winning parent during the 2021 PNC Championship. The Woods duo – who were matched in Tiger’s iconic Nike outfits – finished in second, two shots behind John Daly and his son.

One year on, Tiger and Charlie will be returning to the event later this month and will no doubt be hoping to go one better this time around. Ahead of the father-son showdown in Florida, Woods Jr has been in action at the Junior Golf National Championships.

And the 13-year-old had the luxury of having his 15-time major winning dad on the bag, as the Woods duo teamed up once more. Charlie secured a spot in the Nationals after shooting his lowest ever score, carding an impressive four-under-par 68 in qualifying.

Obviously there were lots of lessons learned, but overall I think the big picture is that he thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun for both of us.” Everyone in the world of golf is no doubt hoping the 13-year-old can follow in the footsteps of his great dad, but Woods himself has told Charlie to in fact base his swing off fellow star Rory McIlroy.

“Speaking at the Hero World Challenge the 15-time major winner revealed: “I told [Charlie], ‘Don’t copy my swing. Copy Rory’s. Have you ever seen Rory off balance on a shot? No. Not ever. You can swing as hard as you want, but you need to have balance.”
