OKLAHOMA CITY, Thursday, August 11, 2022 – Along with new backpacks, fresh kicks and meet the teacher’s day, the Oklahoma City Thunder is also doing their part to help students celebrate the back-to-school season and kick off the new school year.
The Rolling Thunder Book Bus, presented by American Fidelity Assurance Company will make appearances at Emerson North High, Prairie Vale Elementary, Del City Elementary, Choctaw Elementary, Bishop John Carroll Cathedral, KIPP OKC College Prep, Luther Elementary, Charles Haskell Elementary, Lakeview Elementary , and Esperanza Elementary in the coming weeks. The Book Bus carries over 3,000 fiction and non-fiction books that inspire a love for reading.
Later this month, Rumble the Bison will greet students making their way to class at KIPP OKC and Dove Science Academy and Thunder entertainers will join Sunbeam Family Services for their Family Resource Festival.
The Thunder, in partnership with Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores will also host a Back-to-School Bash at Positive Tomorrows, Oklahoma’s only elementary school and social services agency specifically for children and families experiencing homelessness. Students will participate in Thunder themed activities and teachers will receive much needed items from their classroom wish lists.
“We are ecstatic for the opportunity to celebrate our students, teachers, schools and community partners in person,” said Erin Oldfield, director of Community Engagement. “The Thunder cherishes being part of the back-to-school festivities and supporting education through programming and engagement throughout the year.”
